Common types of eye related equipment include prescription glasses and sunglasses and prescription contact lenses. Items associated with the maintenance and care of these is also considered an eligible reimbursable expense under consumer-directed healthcare accounts. Other types of eye-related equipment include ointments, eye drops, and contact lens accessories like cleaners and cases.
Warranties and insurance for prescription eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses are not eligible for reimbursement under consumer-directed healthcare accounts. Eyeglass frames alone cannot be reimbursed, but a completed set of eyeglasses included prescription lenses and frames is eligible for reimbursement. Additional items and equipment that are considered eye-related equipment and are eligible for reimbursement in a consumer-directed healthcare account include contact lens items. These types of eye related equipment include contact lens cases, disinfectant solution, and cleaning solutions. Similar eye related equipment for prescription eyeglasses include cases, cleaning cloths, anti-moisture and fog drops, repair kits, nose pads, and more (Internal Revenue Service).
