Sperm Storage Fees (Short Term): HSA Eligibility
Sperm Storage Fees (Short Term): eligible with a Health Savings Account (HSA)What are sperm storage fees?
Sperm storage is also called cryopreservation or semen cryopreservation or sperm banking. Sperm storage is an artificial reproductive technology that allow patients with medical conditions otherwise preventing or affecting their fertility to reproduce. Sperm storage is part of a variety of services that can assist with fertility (Human Fertilisation & Embryology Authority).
Temporary storage of sperm for implantation (usually defined as 12 months or less) is eligible for reimbursement. Longer-term storage lasting longer than 12 months is typically not eligible as storage would span multiple plan years for the taxpayer.
Costs related to In vitro fertilization are eligible only if they are directly attributable to the taxpayer or a qualified dependent. As always, it is always best to check with your benefits administrator.
