Credit Card Fees: HSA Eligibility

Credit Card Fees: eligible with a Health Savings Account (HSA)
Credit card fees in association with the purchase of an eligible product or service may be eligible for reimbursement with flexible spending accounts (FSA), health savings accounts (HSA), health reimbursement accounts (HRA) and limited-purpose flexible spending accounts (LPFSA). Credit card fees may be eligible for reimbursement with dependent care flexible spending account (DCFSA) if required to obtain the dependent care.

A credit card fee (sometimes called a convenience fee, processing fee, or surcharge) is a fee that a merchant or payment processor adds when you pay for a qualified medical product or service using a credit or debit card. Fees imposed by health care providers or merchants in connection with a financial transaction such as currency exchange, electronic payment card interchange, or other fees of this type are typically reimbursable, as long as the fees are imposed as part of the cost of obtaining the item or service.

Please note that fees of this type are different from finance charges, such as late payment fees or interest charges which are imposed for financial dealings above and beyond those necessary for the individuals to obtain the related item or service. Finance charges typically are not reimbursable with a consumer directed healthcare account.
