What can I purchase with tax-free dollars without a prescription?

Update: with the passage of the CARES Act in March 2020, OTC medicines are now fully FSA/HSA eligible without a prescription.

To make this even easier, our Eligibility List breaks things down so you know exactly which items require a prescription to purchase with (or be reimbursed by) your tax-free funds.

Of course, you can buy OTC medicines with a credit card from our sites, even if you don't have a prescription. But if you want to use tax-free funds from your FSA or HSA, you'll have to submit a claim with a prescription to purchase, or request reimbursement (and who wants to do that?!)
