QUESTION:

How much can you contribute to an HSA?

ANSWER:

Provided that you enroll in a qualified High Deductible Health plan (HDHP) before the first day of December and you have had at least one full month of HDHP coverage and will continue that coverage for the next 12 months (so 13 months in total), you may contribute up to the following:

- 2017: $3,400 individual and $6,750 if participating in the HDHP as family.
- 2018: $3,450 individual and $6,900 if participating in the HDHP as family.
- If age 55 or older, you may contribute an additional $1,000 catch-up.
