What is the Body Restoration Technique (BRT)?

The Body Restoration Technique (BRT) was developed by Dr. Eric Berg, Doctor of Chiropractic by the Virginia and California Boards of Medicine, as a means of locating and removing energy blockages that can contribute to weight gain and chronic pain issues (DrBerg.com). Much like acupressure which functions around the belief that pain can be mitigated by blockages along "meridians" in the body, BRT examines "reflex points" in the body and how blockages can occur.

BRT is based in the belief that reflex points in the body can be blocked by a variety of outside sources that can cause damage in the body, including chemicals, toxins, microbes, injuries, poor eating habits, food chemicals, radiation, scars, stress or genetic weakness. BRT is a method of examining the nervous system's interactions with the body and how physical energy blockages can be the sources of problems in the body (HealthWorx).

The first BRT treatment is an assessment of the priorities for the body through a muscle testing response to identify communication weaknesses in the body. This will involve light breathing exercises, as well as light tapping on the spine. It's important to remember that BRT is not meant to treat disease or specific symptoms, but it is meant to assess why a certain condition is taking place. BRT is controversial in some medical circles and its efficacy has been disputed, so any consumer-driven healthcare account holder should check with their benefits administrator about their reimbursement options before considering BRT treatments.
